Here comes 2012...

I'm trying to get a one day head start on 2012. A couple of my New Year's resolutions focus on many things that have to do with my blog.

- Update posts for the blog way more often
-Add a "Tour The Jenngerbread House" tab

AND.....

Wait for it....

-Redo and sell a piece of furniture

To aid in the resolution above, I'm planning on adding a "JH Designs - For Sale" tab.

What do you think?? Feed back, PLEASE!!

As far as getting the blog caught up to match our current house, I'm going to post a smorgasbord of photos and redos hopefully in the next week.

HAPPY 2012, y'all!!

J+A Shower

In my last post I mentioned about us having a shower at our house. It was for our good friends Jessie and Amanda who are getting married October 8th. The shower was a co ed cookout, and it turned out great!

What would a blog post of mine be without a little before and after? so here goes..

Before

After

I was a little concerned about looking redneck chic, but everyone loved them!

More pictures from the cookout...

The cupcake cake.

The food side.

The dessert side.

The Hall of Doom

That's how I felt about it anyway.

I don't think I have to remind any of you my distaste for peeling wallpaper, and this hallway had a ton a peelin' that needed doin'. Ughhh. My wallpaper distaste has grown so much I had tried to hire this job out. Me hire a home project out? Yes, it's that bad. Luckily my dad was ready to jump in and help me tackle the project so I could get it down and over with and the only expense was the paint. Oh and food. I feed my help.

SN: The done and over with is because we're hosting a shower this weekend and I'm freaking out about all of my unfinished projects and strangers seeing my house. ekkk!!

On with the pictures. Before and After-ish. You'll see what I mean.

Before
This hallway used to be lined with clocks. I asked for the one at the end to stay. I had just put the picture there to see if the placement of and existing screw would work to hang it.
Sorry for the mess. We were in the process of moving some things out.

During
In the painstaking process.
My dad and Yogi working hard!

After-ish
The color came out much darker than I thought it was going to be, but Dustyn and I like it after all.
The truest color shot I could get. It doesn't look hunter green in person.

Now my plan is to fill in around the one GIANT picture with all of my tons of small picture frames. Won't Dustyn be so proud if I use up all the picture frames??

The print was given to us by out photographer after he used it for his bridal booth for a few shows. It is so huge it had to be custom framed. Talk about $$$$ at 50% off at Hobby Lobby it was going to be over $200. Luckily a friend's dad had just started doing custom framing as a side job and he was able to do it muchhh cheaper. Didn't he do a beautiful job??

Once again not a great picture, but I love the way this clock looks against the color!!
Now for a side job. I didn't want to put curtains up for these little windows, so I decided to frost them.

All of the pictures were taken on my phone since the batteries in my camera were dead. Sorry for the quality. :)

BIG THANKS to my dad, Emily, and my husband on this project!!

Not forgotten...

I promise I haven't forgotten about you all, and I obviously still know the password to log on here. So no new posts you ask? I have a couple before pictures that just don't have afters yet. I'm trying to get life a little more organized and set aside time for such things as this. I just need to find my groove again with the new job so I can try to bring a weekly (if not more often) post. Thanks for hanging in with me!!

As I go, I want to leave you with a thought Courtney posted on her Facebook wall the other day....

"What if you woke up today with only the things you thanked God for yesterday?"

Did it hit you as hard as it hit me?

Curbside pickup, please!

So you know how I said I'm a curbside picker-upper?

Can you say curbside pickup for the win??

I must give credit where credit is due...
My BFF, Kasey, spotted this beauty and sent me a text about it. Later that night we were on a mission for the mantel. While it is a builder grade mantle, it is soild wood, in good shape, and FUH-REE!!

Now I just have to decide where I want to create a faux fireplace!!

The Jenngerbread House @ Blogspot Face Lift

While I know my way around a can of spray paint, I lose my patience with computers- especially HTML. So when Courtney offered to write the code and design my layout (all while having a beautiful 4 month old son) I couldn't pass her up!! She is another treasure I've come across in my life journey, and I hold her dear to my heart.

Soooo a huge thanks to Courtney!!!

SN: Sorry about the lack of updates. I've recently started working 2 jobs and don't have much project time. This is the start of a 3 day weekend for me, so I've already got something in the works with hopes of an update soon!!

Everyone have a safe and happy 4th of July weekend!!!

Allow me to introduce....

Shirley.

When Shirley and I first met she was a poor little dresser who had stickers and writing all over her. She was surrounded by other furniture people had dubbed ugly, broken, or unneeded at my local Goodwill. Surely Shirley deserved better than that!

"If only I had a place for her," I thought as I sadly left the thrift store without her. I went home that night and couldn't get her out of my head. I then came up with the idea to purchase and attempt my first flip and resell once I had given her some pizazz! I was unable to get to the store the next day, so I sent my parents on the mission. $25 later, she was mine!

I couldn't get over how much I loved the shape of the dresser and the handles, so I changed my mind and sought out a spot to keep Shirley in my home. I succeeded!!

Before

I assume this is a remnant of the "artist" who previouly owned the dresser.

Now it was time to bring on the primer. One of the bloggers I follow recommends Zinsser primer especially on slick surfaces. I took her advice and I am pleased with the outcome!

One word.

IKEA!

So yesterday my family and I decided to tackle Atlanta and hit up Ikea.
I consider Ikea to be the biggest playground for home decor enthusiasts on a budget.
That doesn't mean I didn't find enough stuff to hurt my wallet, though!!

Heading into downtown Atl.

One of my infamous [that's more than famous] partners in crime!

We also made a stop by Garden Ridge on the way home.

Here is the "all the cool stuff I got" picture.

From left to right-
Drawer flatware holders - Ikea
Plastic bag holder - Ikea
Pillows - Garden Ridge
Metal tray - Ikea
Rug - Ikea (last chance $3.99!)
6 pack of knobs - Ikea (last chance $0.99 a pack!)
Wooden bench - Ikea
Trash can - Ikea
Grilling glove - Garden Ridge (It was my peace offering for D so maybe he wouldn't think how much moolah I had spent!!)
Steak knives - Ikea
Over the cabinet towel bar - Garden ridge
Strainer - Ikea
Funnels - Ikea
Vases - Garden Ridge (both were red line 50% clearance!)

And then there is this guy...

One of the items I sought out at Ikea.

Here's a sneak peak.

Goodwill hunting...

and no, I'm not talking about Matt Damon and Robin Williams.

Goodwill is where a do a lot of my junk hunting.
After all, you know the saying "one man's junk is another man's treasure - once you spraypaint it."
Oh how I love a good can of spray paint!!

Here are some of the treasures I picked up at Goodwill about a year ago.

Lamp - $5
Birdcage - $1.50
Vase - $1

So first comes the lamp. I repurposed the lamp into a candle holder for my mom's family room mantel. I took out all of the hardware and used a cream color spray paint on it. The middle section I hand painted with some oops paint I picked up at Lowe's.

I also painted the vase with the same cream color, but I don't have any pictures of it.

And the bird cage you ask? It is in my hall bathroom redo and also in the picture below.

I've been doing...

some tweeting tweaking in the hall bath.

I picked up these birds at the Dollar Tree and the candle holders at Goodwill on one of my recent "junk hunts."

Here they are after some fresh paint.

I also switched out the frame on my new art work. The white just didn't give it enough pop.

So I think the next step in this bathroom is going to be the mirror and vanity.

Ok so....

I'm totally addicted to Pintrest.
So much awesome inspiration to absorb.
Thanks Courtney and Katie!!

That is all...

If only I were a fly on the wall.

Or wall art...

So I have this blank wall here...

and I knew I wanted something in a white frame like this here...

With something orange and graphic like this here...

For it all to end up like this here...

.
  • Frame $6
  • Scrapbook page $1
  • Less than 5 minuets time
Want a closer look?

(Sorry the lighting is so weird at night)

Now for Dustyn's idea of accessorizing the bathroom...

Men.....
